Dog Training
Teaching Your Dog How To Behave
When it comes to dog training it can be hard to even know where to begin. When you bring your
sweet new pet home you will soon begin to notice that it needs to be taught a few things.
What many people do not realize it that training is fairly easy once you recognize what your dog
needs and what they are trying to tell you. You will want to take into consideration the age of your dog, where it
was prior to homing with you, and if the dog is sick. Once you have answered those questions you will be able to
begin your learning process.
Dog training can be difficult if you have an older dog than if you have a puppy. Breaking
nervous, territorial, and negative habits of older dogs can take longer than with a younger pup. The key is to be
consistent and patient.
If you find that you are not getting anywhere, contact your vet as they can help you figure out
if there is a medical issue. Positive training gets you much more rewards than negative training, so remember to
try and not scold your dog too much.
Fixing Poor Behavior
Dog training begins with admitting poor dog behavior.
This extends from just using the toilet in the house to other bad issues such as chewing, jumping, and wandering
off. You will want to teach your pet to stay with you. Listen to your commands, and respond to your wishes quick.
Doing this will enable you to control how your dog behaves and whether he or she will listen to you when you tell
them to stop.
The best way to get your dog to listen to you is to use the reward system. Each time your puppy
does what you tell him or her to, give the pup a cookie. This incentive will have your dog listening to you
intently. With each reward also give praise. This way you can phase treats out and simply give praise for good
behavior.
The Potty Problem
When your dog is using your home as a toilet, things can be tense. No one wants to be cleaning
up after their dog forever inside. There are many ways dog training can enable you to control where your dog goes
to the bathroom. First you will need to evaluate your dog’s age and health status. If you have a puppy that is
healthy, it is safe to say that you are simply teaching your dog where the potty is and how to communicate to you
it is time to go.
If your dog is over a year old and using your home as a toilet, there might be some other
issues. He might be nervous, abused in the past, or sick. Older dogs that are not using the outside for toilet use
should be seen by a vet prior to beginning any type of training. Once a good bill of health is given you can then
use behavior modification to fix the problem.
