There are so many positive dog training methods, that spanking or scolding your dog is not needed. It has been proven that punishment can actually hinder dog training and get you further behind than simply being more patient. Once you understand how dog mentality works and why it is so important for your dog to feel loved and secure, you too will agree that teaching your dog to obey using a gentle method is the only way to go. You can get the job in need done without having to use any form of corporal punishment you and your dog are not comfortable with. Long gone are the days of the rolled up newspaper and swatting your dog on the nose or hind end. The Dog MindPositive dog training starts with understanding your dog. A dog wants nothing more than to please you. You are your dog’s world and there is nothing better than making you happy. With such an eager audience there is no reason to get upset with your dog when he makes a mistake. If you scold or spank your dog she will get scared. This can actually set her back from learning rather than scare her into it. She tried to please you and your hurt her, now she will be confused and will not know how to respond in the future. When you are gentle and rewarding with your dog he will learn to obey commands easier. He will not be scared that if he is wrong or makes a mistake he will be harmed. This will make him want to learn more and learn it faster. Remember that your dog does not like to be hit. He will eventually regress from being spanked to the point that he could get hostile. The best way to avoid this is to show him what you want without harming him. How It Works When you want to use positive dog training you need to know how to act around your dog to give him the message you want him to learn. When you are working with your pup and she does what you want, you will praise her with love, patting, and treats. If she does not do what you want you simply do nothing. Your dog wants to make you praise her. She wants to have her cookies and petting. This is positive reinforcement. When he does well, you give him your attention and treats. When he has not done well he is not paid attention to at all. Dogs truly understand this and respond fast to it. It works very well and allows you to get the training you want done without having to use physical punishment with your pet. Some bad behaviors may take more time and patience than others, but they can all be resolved using positive dog training. Many dog owners have actually said that they became closer to their pet by treating him with dignity and respect and they actually were able to teach their dog more as well.
