Positive Dog Training

Discover Positive Dog Training

Positive dog training offers you and your dog a great way to learn the basics and fun tricks that people love to show off. This is a training method that most experts recommend today in order to effectively train a dog fast and without fear. This means no yelling, scolding, hitting, or reprimanding.

When your dog does not do a command or makes a mistake using harsh punishment does not make him want to learn faster. He now begins to think he is bad and gets scared. He is afraid you will abandon him, hurt him, or not love him. This actually makes training more difficult. A positive approach allow you to get you message across without making your dog feel scared.

The Cookie Method

Using cookies is the best way to train your dog to do tricks and basic obedience. Positive dog training uses food, a motivator, as a reward for a specific command or behavior. Dogs love food and respond well to new idea when food is the motivation. It is a positive, pleasant way to get what you want done accomplished. Simply give your dog a cookie or treat each time he or she does the trick or command when asked.

Once your dog has effectively learned the command and can do it anytime or anywhere, you can then stop rewarding with cookies. Many owners use praise as well as food so they can wean off the food when the command is known.

Effectively Ignoring

The best way to acknowledge that your dog’s behavior or response was not what you wanted is to ignore him or her. Dogs want out attention and love all the time. When we do not give it to them it tells them to work harder to please us so they can get it.

Effectively ignoring your dog when he does not produce the result you want him to, is the correct way to positive dog training. He will then try harder to get the task done. This can be used for both training and behaviors that are not desired. Yelling, screaming, and spanking do not tell our dog that we are not pleased. They confuse a dog as to why we would hurt them.

Praise And Love

When it comes to positive dog training you will get very far with praise and love. Dogs love to get praise as much as food. A tummy rub, the ball tossed, or simply praising him will make him want to do more for you. Each time your pup is learning a new command you will reward him with praise and love. He will learn to respond to this quite effectively.

The best part about training your dog using this method is that you do not have to wean him from it after, as you do with food training. Sometimes people with use both food and praise as a motivator. This way they get their dog to respond faster, and yet have them already used to praise as well.
