Potty Training For Dogs

Potty Training For Dogs Advice

Potty training for dogs is easily a task that will rattle the senses if you do not get a grasp of it relatively quickly.

This is something that by all means is not the dog’s fault, yet seems to cause so much frustration during the process. this is a period of time where you have to convince this young dog that going to the bathroom outside rather than inside is the thing to do. There are many different strategies that you can try to employ, yet one of the most tested and true ways is through dedication and commitment.

Knowing When To Pressure

When it comes to potty training for dogs, you will need to know when you can pressure for results and when you should simply back off. This is because the difference between a dogs that has support versus a dog that is rushed, is simply the amount of accidents that you will find on your floor. The dog that you rush through a potty training session will be far more likely to make a mistake on your floor. This really is not the fault of the dog, rather the owner or trainer that is trying to push the dog too far. While it is true that some dogs can simply be very stubborn and not want to give in, you need to show them that it is okay and they will be fine for it. Most often this is done by way of positive reinforcement.

Let Them Know What You Expect

If you are in the middle of potty training for dogs, you are going to want to express to the dog what it is that you expect of them. This means a gentle reminder of what you want from them, and they will notice by the tone in your voice what you are getting at. While dogs most likely cannot understand what we are saying, it is the repetition and the way we speak to them that gets them to respond.

If you say something enough times, and you do it with a positive reinforcement you will actually get a better response from them. If you are harsh and quick with them, you can be sure that they will ignore what you are demanding or fail to make the connection all together. Work with your dog, and not against them. This will always have a better result than the opposite.

Rewards

Rewards are always something that should be handed out for a good job in potty training for dogs. This means that for every time that they go outside and actually potty out there instead of your home, they will get a treat. This of course will work well if you mix things up a bit too.

This means that one time you could offer a treat, and the next time simply give them some attention and kind words. When the dog sees the connection between the outside potty and the treat, you will more than likely see more positives than negative behavior.
